On March 6, investigators at the New Canaan Police Department received a report of a burglary at Embody Fitness on Forest Street, which was caught on video days earlier at approximately 3:45 in the morning, when $100 was taken. Five days later, at approximately 5:30 a.m., approximately 80 more dollars was taken.
Using video surveillance, a former employee at Embody Fitness, Stamford resident Samuel Marrero, 24, was identified as the suspect who had entered the business, using a key to gain entry. Marrero was later spotted by police and taken into custody, where he confessed to the burglaries, and an arrest warrant was put out for his arrest.
In the video, taken from the March 11 incident, the suspect can be seen walking up to the location dressed in all black, making his way to the register and taking cash before walking off and locking back up.
Marrero turned himself into police custody at approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday morning, where he was arrested and charged with two counts each of sixth-degree larceny and third-degree burglary. Following processing, Marrero is being held in lieu of $40,000 bond and has been transported to Norwalk Justice Court.
